Silston Library, as some of you remember, was my venue for the Jhohadli Summer Youth Writing Project 2013.
One of the things I subsequently told them I’d like to assist with is the drive to improve their book collection. But I wanted what came in to be specific to their needs; not just a book dump. Here’s what they said: “We are trying to create a unique Silston Library collections which focuses on Antiguan/Caribbean books.” Additionally, they want to educate the public, especially the youth about the literary history of Antigua and Barbuda, so they welcome books from way back when to right now.
If you’re local and reading this, you are being asked, therefore, to contribute gently used copies of Antiguan-Barbudan/Caribbean books and/or purchase a book by an Antiguan-Barbudan/Caribbean author or two, or three for contribution to the Library. This has the effect of supporting the library and supporting local/Caribbean authors as well, win-win. Triple because you’ll be sharing one of your favourite Caribbean reads with other book lovers.
Donations can be made directly to the library located on Redcliffe Street, Mondays to Thursdays, between 2 and 6 p.m., and Saturdays 9 to 2 p.m.
I hope each person who reads this will contribute at least one book. Also, if you know of others who might like to give, share this message.
