Throwback review – meaning a review I posted back in my My Space days and am now relocating here.
Whitethorn Woods by Maeve Binchy – Usually Binchy is one of my favourite great escapes – she renders characters that are so engaging, and organically incorporates them into each others lives and, usually, into an Ireland caught somewhere between tradition and change. Loved Quentins, Firefly Summer, Tara Road, Circle of Friends (book and film), Evening Class, Scarlet Feather, Nights of Rain and Stars, and others (usually if it’s a Binchy I can’t wait to bite into it because I know she won’t disappoint). But I have to admit this one took me a good long while to read, mostly because I never really got into it – partly, I think, because the individual stories didn’t quite interconnect as seamlessly as they usually do. Still, it had all the familiar Binchy touches and may well be someone else’s cup of tea. And I’ll definitely come back to this writer; no doubt.
