Turn Thanks by Lorna Goodison
I didn’t post a review when I read this initially because honestly I felt inadequate to the task. Lorna Goodison is everything and I’m not worthy.
But I did find this very short note that I made while reading the book and decided to post it (for what it’s worth):
Family, community, and rituals – rituals for living, rituals at the time of dying – are the meat of Turn Thanks which strikes a tone somewhere between reflection, gratitude, and sadness.
That’s it. That’s all she (I) wrote. One more thing, congrats to Ms. Goodison, who is also Jamaica’s Poet Laureate, on being selected as a 2018 recipient of the lucrative and prestigious Wyndham Campbell prize.
